THE INDUSTRY'S FIRST FREE VIRTUAL PRACTICE FOR LAWYERS
FindLaw offers tools to conduct legal practice over the Internet
PALO ALTO, CA -- March 2, 1999 -- FindLaw, Inc., the leading Internet portal for legal information, today unveiled the Findlaw Office ( http://office.findlaw.com/), providing the first offering to lawyers to manage documents and collaborate securely over the Internet. FindLaw Office also allows users to create Web sites and exchange e-mail over the Internet for free.
"The FindLaw Office provides lawyers with tools to conduct a virtual practice," explains Stacy Stern, president of FindLaw. "Lawyers have been struggling to find ways to leverage Internet technology to improve the delivery of legal services. Except for some large law firms, few lawyers have the technical and financial resources to set up a virtual practice. The FindLaw Office gives all lawyers the opportunity to communicate with their clients and prospective clients over the Internet securely and for free."
The FindLaw Office provides a convenient set of resources to help lawyers collaborate with clients, to exchange e-mail, and to publish Web Sites. Through an alliance with NetVoyage Corporation, developer of NetDocuments, FindLaw offers a secure environment that allows lawyers to share documents with colleagues and clients quickly and easily. Lawyers can also securely store and manage documents for easy access to files from any computer with a capable Web browser. Similarly, FindLaw's free e-mail, JusticeMail, offers lawyers the ability to send and retrieve e-mail with a Web browser using a personal account at the justicemail.com domain. FindLaw Office Web sites, in turn, provide legal professionals unique opportunities to exchange information with other legal professionals and legal consumers.
"The beauty of the FindLaw Office is that it is so easy to use and has the potential to change the way lawyers do business," said Peter Krakaur, Director of Strategic Alliances of FindLaw. "A lawyer needs only a Web browser. In less than one-half hour, a lawyer can create a Web Site to reach out to existing and prospective clients, download e-mail from one or more accounts, and send a draft pleading to a client for review. I even used the system to negotiate the NetDocuments contract, securely exchanging drafts until we reached a deal. I avoided the need for messengers, faxes, or reams of paper. Lawyers and their clients will undoubtedly appreciate the convenience and potential cost savings."
