A Message to West Group Clients and Partners

September 18, 2001 - The events in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania have shaken the entire nation. On behalf of the employees at West Group and all of The Thomson Corporation, I would like to share with you our sadness and outrage over these senseless attacks against the American people.

These are emotional times. As a company, we’re now focused on channeling this emotion into positive, productive programs that can help our clients get back on their feet. For example, we have mobilized a Crisis Response Team backed by the full resources and commitment of our company. This team is prepared to answer any questions affected customers might have, help with access to research materials, research assistance, technology support and, as available, provide access to computers and work space in a West Group Information Center. We’ll also replace all lost West Group volumes at no cost.

We’ve marshaled our vast information assets to create specialized resources relating to this crisis. West Group has created a free database on Westlaw, Preserving Freedom, Protecting America, which provides access to documents on Westlaw relating to the U.S. response to the September 11 attacks and to terrorism in general. And FindLaw has assembled a comprehensive free library of news, government and legal information including archival documents on global terrorist activities.

Lastly, for those of you who have products, services or resources you wish to share with colleagues in New York or Washington, D.C., we’ve set up a special clearinghouse on FindLaw that will help to bridge your resources with the needs of impacted practitioners. The scope of this attack was unthinkable, and the impact on our profession immeasurable. But the power of justice is a shared cornerstone between West Group and our customers. Let’s work together to make a difference for our colleagues, and our country.
