A Message to West Group Clients and Partners

September 19, 2001 - The employees of West Group and Thomson Legal & Regulatory are saddened and outraged over the attacks against the American people in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of our valued clients and partners who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy. We also extend our sincere gratitude to all people who, without regard for their personal safety, rushed to the aid and comfort of others.

As a trusted partner to the legal profession for more than 125 years, we place an absolute belief in the power and fairness of justice. It is our sincere hope that justice is swift and without compromise in demanding accountability for those responsible for these cowardly acts.

In the spirit of partnership, West Group has mobilized a Crisis Response Team of research, product and technical specialists to be available around-the-clock to help our clients and friends who practice law in lower Manhattan and Washington, D.C. get back on their feet. This team of Reference Attorneys, Customer Technical Support specialists, and Sales and Account Management professionals is prepared to help you get access to research materials and assistance, reestablish connections, rebuild your networks, and, as available, provide access to computers and workspace in a West Group Information Center. We’ll also provide full replacement of West Group volumes lost in the attack to help rebuild your law library, and your practice.

We’ve marshaled our vast information assets to create specialized resources relating to this crisis. West Group has created a free database on Westlaw, Preserving Freedom, Protecting America, which provides access to documents on Westlaw relating to the U.S. response to the September 11 attacks and to terrorism in general. And FindLaw has assembled a comprehensive free library of news, government and legal information including archival documents on global terrorist activities.

Lastly, for those of you who have products, services or resources you wish to share with colleagues in New York or Washington, D.C., we’ve set up a special clearinghouse on FindLaw that will help to bridge your resources with the needs of impacted practitioners.
