Scott Kinney Joins FindLaw as Vice President of Strategic Marketing

EAGAN, Minn., May 27 -- FindLaw, the leading provider of client development services to the legal profession and a business within The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced Scott Kinney has been appointed to vice president of Strategic Marketing. Kinney's appointment adds significant marketing bench strength to FindLaw and accelerates the company's strategy to expand key business infrastructure to support continued, rapid growth in the law firm marketing and client development services market.

Kinney will be the driving force in capitalizing FindLaw's expertise in helping law firms establish a strong and effective presence on the Web, connecting those seeking legal knowledge or help with professional service providers. He also will be responsible for identifying new growth opportunities in the legal market and further aligning FindLaw's consumer and professional business channels, geared toward business and personal legal services.

FindLaw President and Chief Executive Officer Debbie Monroe said that the addition of Kinney is a strong step for FindLaw, which has begun to make significant organizational moves to provide the infrastructure necessary to sustain the significant and rapid growth momentum achieved in 2003. "Scott's diverse background and experience will be instrumental to FindLaw as we continue to strengthen the company's value to its customers and drive business growth," she said.

In the recent months, FindLaw has established a dedicated sales force, expanded its customer care organization and realigned product development around professional and consumer channels. Its Mountain View, Calif., office continues to be a center of excellence in Web technology engineering, driving overall content and functionality for FindLaw.com.

In April, comScore Media Metrix, a leading independent Web usage reporting service noted that FindLaw.com was ranked the 379th most visited U.S. site on the Web in March, making the portal far-and-away the most popular destination on the Web for people seeking free, comprehensive information about attorneys and the law.

Kinney joins FindLaw from CBS MarketWatch where he served as executive vice president of licensing and as general manager, responsible for sales, marketing, strategic planning, product design and development, and client services. Prior to that, he was the chief operations officer and chief financial officer of BigCharts, a financial services information business that was acquired by CBS MarketWatch in 1999. Kinney also spent nine years with The Boston Consulting Group, where he held managerial positions in Chicago, Boston and Melbourne, Australia.

Kinney holds a master of business administration from Stanford University and a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College. He resides in Eagan, Minn., with his wife and two daughters.
