Thomson FindLaw Expands Content of Thomson Legal Record to Include Federal Dockets
EAGAN, Minn., Oct. 29, 2004 -- In-house corporate attorneys now can research prospective outside lawyers' current caseloads as well as their previous litigation history. Thomson FindLaw, a business within The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced the addition of federal dockets, as well as enhanced search functionality for the Thomson Legal Record, available exclusively at FindLaw.com.
The award-winning Thomson Legal Record, which was introduced in July of this year, helps in-house corporate counsel verify and document the experience of the outside attorneys they hire to represent their companies. Starting today, users will be able to expand the scope of their research with the ability to view federal docket information in addition to an attorney's litigation history drawn from Westlaw®, their West Legal Directory® profile and published articles on FindLaw.com. The Thomson Legal Record is free to view at the FindLaw Corporate Counsel Center (http://corporate.findlaw.com), one of the most viewed online resources for corporate attorneys, with over 150,000 unique visitors every month.
The Thomson Legal Record now gives users access to information on over one million attorneys in 400,000 law firms. The addition of federal dockets increases the number of links to cases and dockets on Westlaw from 6.4 million to 12.4 million and provides a more comprehensive look at each attorney's litigation experience and immediate caseload. Moreover, visitors accessing the Thomson Legal Record through the FindLaw Corporate Counsel Center or the FindLaw for Legal Professionals Web site (http://lp.findlaw.com) will experience an expanded and more intuitive interface, allowing users to easily locate an attorney with the right experience for their pending legal matter. To delve further into an attorney's litigation experience and docket information, researchers can simply click on the desired case or docket and sign on to Westlaw to directly access the record.
According to Debbie Monroe, Thomson FindLaw president and CEO, the Thomson Legal Record has successfully integrated attorneys' self-reported credentials with objective records of litigation experience. "The addition of federal dockets to the Thomson Legal Record significantly increases the scope of content regarding an attorney's litigation experience. This gives corporate counsel the ability to verify their hiring decisions and provides an objective vehicle in which outside attorneys can market their professional services to this highly valued client base."
The Thomson Legal Record will continue to expand to draw on additional information resources, including transactional data from Thomson Financial, to provide additional dimensions of lawyer and law firm expertise and experience.
