Drivers Can Sort Out Laws for Traffic Tickets on FindLaw.com

Number-one legal Web site unveils resource center on traffic and tickets

EAGAN, Minn., Sept. 7, 2006 -- FindLaw.com, the most popular free legal information Web site, has introduced a Traffic Tickets Center (http://public.findlaw.com/traffic-ticket-violation-law/ ), a comprehensive one-stop resource that provides quick access to information on traffic laws and related information for all 50 states. Thomson FindLaw is business within The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC).

Traffic and motor vehicle laws differ among states. Each state sets its own traffic laws, such as speed limits, DUI limits and "points" systems for violations. In addition, each state sets its own driver licensing, vehicle registration and insurance requirements.

All material in the FindLaw Traffic Tickets Center is free and presented in a user-friendly format that enables FindLaw users to quickly and easily find the information that meets their specific needs, including:

  • A "Tickets A to Z" section containing definitions and quick access to laws in all 50 states for common traffic violations, such as running a stop sign, speeding and reckless driving.
  • State motor vehicle registration and insurance requirements.
  • Contesting a traffic ticket.
  • What to do if you're stopped by police or highway patrol.
  • DUI/DWI information.
  • Department of Motor Vehicle office information for all 50 states.
  • Access to safe driving tips and resources from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"Traffic laws represent some of our most common encounters with the law and the legal system," said Scott Kinney, vice president and general manager, Thomson FindLaw. "Such laws vary by location and oftentimes people may not be aware of certain traffic laws in their state. The FindLaw Traffic Tickets Center helps drivers and vehicle owners untangle the web of traffic laws where they live and work, and while traveling."

The FindLaw Traffic Tickets Center can help locate an attorney who specializes in traffic law through the West Legal Directory®, the largest and most-referenced online directory of lawyers and law firms. The directory helps individuals search by legal issue, location or attorney name to find legal counsel in their area and research the attorney's qualifications and experience.

FindLaw.com received the 2005 Webby Award as Best Law Web site and was named in 2005 one of the "50 Coolest Sites" on the Internet by Time magazine. FindLaw.com is also the most-visited legal information Web site, with more than 3 million unique visitors per month. According to comScore Media Metrix, a leading independent traffic monitoring service, FindLaw.com ranks among the top 350 sites on the Internet.
